Cloud Island Pokopia Guide: Multiplayer Co-op Island Explained

What Cloud Island is in Pokémon Pokopia, how to access the multiplayer Cloud Island, and what it shares with your home island.

Cloud Island is the persistent online multiplayer space in Pokémon Pokopia — separate from your single-player home island and built around shared progress with up to four players.

What is Cloud Island in Pokopia?

In Pokopia, "Cloud Island" refers to the optional online multiplayer island a host player creates from the Pokémon Center PC. Other players join using a Cloud Island address, and the host can leave the island available even when offline. This is distinct from a "Friend Visit," which loads another player's main town directly via a Link Code.

Cloud Islands are not part of the main story progression. They are a sandbox where:

  • Pokédex progress on that island is shared by everyone who joins
  • Rewards, requests, and challenges completed on the island stay on the island
  • Bag items do not transfer between your home town and a Cloud Island

How to access Cloud Island

  1. Progress until the Pokémon Center PC and Link Play options unlock in your home town
  2. Open Link Play from the PC and choose Cloud Island
  3. Either create your own Cloud Island (you become host) or enter an address shared by another player
  4. Online play requires Nintendo Switch Online; local wireless does not connect to Cloud Islands

Cloud Island vs. Palette Town co-op

Palette Town is the Pokopia town you build through the campaign and can host friends inside via Link Code. A Cloud Island is its own persistent island that exists separately from any single player's town. The two co-op modes serve different goals: Friend Visit shows off what you've built; Cloud Island is shared progress with no individual owner of the layout.

What does NOT work on Cloud Island

Multiple events confirm that limited-time Pokémon and event mechanics are restricted to your main island. Recent events have explicitly noted that "Cloud Islands, which are multiplayer islands separate from the main campaign, will not be part of the event," meaning event Pokémon and event items will not appear there. Plan to grind events on your home island, not on a Cloud Island.

FAQ

Is Cloud Island the same as Palette Town?

No. Palette Town is the town you build during the Pokopia campaign and can open to friends through Link Play. A Cloud Island is a separate, persistent multiplayer space accessed by Cloud Island address. Up to four players can co-op in either, but Cloud Islands stay available even when the host is offline.

Can event Pokémon spawn on Cloud Island?

No. Recent events such as the Hoppip and Sableye events explicitly state that Cloud Islands are excluded from event spawns and event-exclusive items. Always run event content on your main island.

Do I keep items I gather on Cloud Island?

Items in your bag do not transfer between your home town and a Cloud Island. Pokédex collection on a Cloud Island is shared with everyone who joined that island.
